The life of a mentor

The days starts with my team getting our weekly rations and preparing for our activities. It usually begins with checking if the recipients have done their assigned tasks to the children who were absent for 2 straight days.

Reason can vary from helping parents with carbonization chores, washing clothes or going to the other mountain to farm. As the day unfolds, many were approaching my leaders asking to be included in the private school program where children are fed and have been given free set of uniforms.

The children were all chanting “madam, madam they were asking would you allow them to join”. Every week I add 5 to 7 learners. So I responded, “list the children’s name and we will ask permission with the community elders if I could speak with them”.

Conversations and Communication are different in context such as hearing and listening. Very important for them to understand that I am there for Literacy Program and we are not a private school. I have big enough worry as it is. I do not want to add anymore. Grateful for all the donors for believing in the advocacy I represent. Education is the tool that shall set them free from the mundane beliefs of the unlearned.
