It is of
great importance to understand the relationship of environment and human beings
in contributing to the heavy onset of climate change. Being an educator of
Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction Core Subject for Grade 12, I made it a
point to update myself in new regulations on all aspects of Disaster
Management.
Several
factors affect any community in times of disaster but the biggest contribution
to all the hazards are the human actions. The reality is that it is a cycle of
one’s perception towards his responsibility and the community’s response to
environmental changes.
Attending a
seminar about DENR (Department of Environmental and Natural Resurces)
regulations and NGO’s role in fighting for the humane treatment of bio-diversity
just re-enforced my advocacy to impart and educate my students about the value of
respect towards Earth and the resolve to elect people who have the same mind
set towards better green governance.

Understanding
the concept that no man is an island must be replicated. Even if one person is
adept and technically knowledgeable but has no support of the elected officials
and the community he is trying to serve there is no way for any green project
to prosper.
We have
heard issues where people in coastal community will agree for a sand quarrying
simply because they do not understand the long term effect of those actions. Or
even if they have higher awareness but are lacking the concept of long term effect
shall and time again receive a dismal payment for natural resources that their
ascendants are entitled for.

It is sad
and frightening truth that the current situation of Earth is so tragic that if
we do not act now there will be no bluest/greenest planet in our universe.

We are built
higher in intelligence than animals but we lack the common sense of one. We do
not recognize the circle of life; instead what we recognize is the monetary
ascendancy. We vote for people who are selfish and be governed by irresponsible
individuals.
We have to
change that mind-set, we have to embrace the fact that each one of us plays a
role in fighting to keep Earth as healthy as we would want ourselves to be.
Change is
constant let us be the constant for Mother Earth. Educate and Replicate.
